The State Department for Housing and Urban Development, through the Economic Stimulus Program (ESP), is gearing up to build a cutting-edge market at Mukarara trading centre following the allocation of land by Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru.

This modern market is poised to benefit around 1,000 traders within and beyond the county who have been operating in open-air and makeshift setups.

Governor Waiguru, at the handover ceremony in Mukarara center, emphasized the significance of this project in line with the county administration’s commitment to providing a conducive trading environment.

She highlighted the market’s features, including a two-storey structure accommodating 200 traders, an ICT hub with internet connectivity, a social hall, a crèche for accompanying babies, and a restaurant.

Waiguru expressed her optimism, stating, “This site will not only be a trading hub but a catalyst for economic vitality, transforming Mukarara town into a vibrant commercial center.”

She commended the National Government for their collaborative efforts in ensuring modern markets are established across various trading centers.

The initiative aims to enhance economic growth, provide modern amenities, and foster a thriving business environment for local entrepreneurs.
