The Teacher’s Service Commission (TSC) has announced over 36,000 promotion opportunities for teachers. CEO Nancy Macharia has encouraged teachers to apply for these positions outside of their home counties.

She expressed gratitude to President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration for allocating funding for teacher promotions, with Ksh 1 billion provided for the financial year 2023/24.

The commission has advertised 36,505 vacancies for teacher promotion, with 17,914 of these going to primary school teachers. This demonstrates the government’s commitment to the success of the promotion process.

Macharia also highlighted shortages in certain positions, particularly in Special Needs Education, and urged all invited applicants to attend interviews on December 4th. She emphasized the need for applicants to apply for positions outside their home counties to prevent regional shortages, as there were 1,123 unfilled positions in the recent recruitment exercise.

Statistics showed that several regions had unfilled positions, with North Eastern having the highest number of vacancies, particularly in Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa. Other regions experiencing shortages included the Coast, Central, and Eastern regions.
