The United States’ Power Africa program has awarded Ksh58 million (USD 400,000) in grants to four Kenyan companies to support female farmers in accessing clean energy solutions. This initiative aims to empower women in agriculture by providing them with the necessary tools and resources to enhance their productivity and economic independence.

Power Africa, in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), carefully selected these companies for their commitment to promoting female-led projects. The beneficiaries include Agsol, Ecobora, Rafode, and Sidai, each with unique plans to uplift women in agriculture through innovative solutions.

According to Power Africa, the grants are designed to address the challenges faced by female farmers, particularly in asset ownership and access to essential resources. The organization highlighted the growing importance of female smallholder farmers in Kenya and the need to support their advancement in the agricultural sector.

“Female smallholder farmers play an increasingly important role…Yet female farmers have lower rates of asset ownership…,” Power Africa stated during the announcement, emphasizing the significance of empowering women in agriculture.

This strategic investment aims to introduce cutting-edge technologies, raise awareness about the benefits of clean energy solutions, and equip women with the necessary business skills to thrive in the agricultural sector.
