First Lady Rachel Ruto today, Tuesday, February 27, 2024, launched the Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Strategy at Karura Forest, to plant 500 million trees by 2032. Mrs. Ruto was accompanied by Environment CS Soipan Tuya and Forestry PS Mugambi Gitonga at the event, all highlighting the significance of environmental protection.

“In line with the government’s 15 Billion National Tree Growing Programme, we aim to grow 500 million trees by 2032,” stated the First Lady, highlighting the initiative’s ambitious goals.

Mrs. Ruto’s initiative garnered attention from UN officials attending the sixth United Nations Environment Assembly in Nairobi. She kickstarted the tree-planting campaign by planting a tree during the launch, symbolizing a commitment to sustainable environmental practices.
