In a decisive move aimed at curbing the escalating road accidents in Kenya, Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a sweeping directive to all police officers across the country. Following President William Ruto’s stern warning to address the surge in accidents promptly, CS Murkomen emphasized the urgency of enforcing traffic laws without exception.

“Following the directives issued by the President, all police officers are under instructions to enforce the law without considering their police departments,” stated CS Murkomen, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.

The Transport Ministry, in collaboration with the National Police Service led by Inspector General Japhet Koome, is set to implement this directive to ensure strict adherence to traffic regulations. CS Murkomen highlighted the significant role of Bodaboda riders in road accidents, emphasizing the need for targeted measures to enhance road safety.

During the official launch of the National Road Safety Action Plan at KICC, President Ruto underscored the imperative of reducing road fatalities and expressed zero tolerance for the persistent increase in accidents. CS Murkomen affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to restoring order on Kenyan roads and reducing accident rates.
