James Mwaura has been named the new Chief Executive Officer of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), effective March 16, 2024. This appointment comes as a strategic move to elevate the country’s standing in the global meetings industry.

Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua expressed confidence in Mwaura’s abilities, stating, “Mwaura will spearhead Kenya’s conference tourism and position the destination globally as a preferred meetings hub.”

Mwaura, equipped with an impressive academic background including an MBA in Finance and a BBA in Accounting and Finance, is set to bring over 19 years of diverse experience in finance, accounting, banking, administration, and corporate governance to his new role.

Mutua emphasized the importance of Mwaura’s leadership in driving revenue growth for KICC, the largest Convention Centre in Eastern Africa with a capacity for over 10,000 delegates. Mutua highlighted, “His expertise in Conference Tourism will enhance KICC’s competitiveness and elevate Kenya’s status in the MICE industry.”
