The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection’s CS Hon. Florence Bore on Saturday toured the Child Welfare Society of Kenya model homes under construction in Murang’a, Laikipia and Isiolo.

The Temporary Safety homes are aimed at giving rescued children a safe space for rehabilitation from trauma and other essential services for their development and wellbeing.

The Kenya Kwanza government is working on the Deinstitutionalization of Children. The government has also made it a priority to prioritize the vulnerable in the society. In the financial year 2023/24, the government allocated 38.2 Billion shillings for social protection and affirmative action. The Child Welfare Society of Kenya received about 900 Million shillings in funding.

Deinstitutionalization of Children is the process of reforming child care systems and closing down of orphanages and children’s homes and in place finding suitable homely placements for vulnerable children and support them in non-institutional ways.

All around the world, this process is being hailed as Children are able to thrive best when raised in at best in a home. These Temporary places of Safety ensure a safe space for rehabilitation as the process of reintegration continues.
