The national government is finalizing a new policy to address alcohol and drug abuse, aiming to establish strategic measures to combat the detrimental effects on individuals and society.

The National Policy for the Prevention, Management, and Control of Alcohol, Drug, and Substance Abuse seeks to provide a cohesive framework to tackle substance abuse challenges and safeguard the health and well-being of Kenyans.

The primary objective of this policy is to develop and implement interventions that effectively mitigate the harmful effects of alcohol, drug, and substance abuse on individuals, families, and the nation at large.

Mombasa County Commissioner Mohammed Nur highlighted recent successes in Mombasa, including the closure of bars near sensitive areas and significant seizures of contraband substances, underlining the importance of disrupting supply routes.

”We have sustained the fight against alcohol and substance abuse and so far our efforts have been worthwhile. Our teams have been able to shut down close to 167 unauthorized bars operating near schools and residential areas and nabbed an estimated Sh. 10 million street value worth of bhang,” revealed CC Nur.

Expressing concern over rising consumption of substances like Marijuana, Cocaine, miraa and mugoka, Nur emphasized the need for targeted interventions, especially among youth, urging proactive parental supervision and intensified law enforcement operations to dismantle criminal networks and secure communities.
