The Ministry of Health has called on Kenyans to prioritize safety and health as the heavy rains continue across the country. Kenyans have been urged to protect themselves from illnesses such as Malaria, Dengue, Chikungunya, and Rift Valley Fever by sleeping under mosquito nets. It’s a simple yet powerful way to stay safe.

As the rains continue, the Ministry advices Kenyans to keep water and food safe during heavy rains! Use latrines properly, dispose of waste correctly, and always wash their hands to avoid water borne diseases.

 “Boil or treat water to prevent contamination, reducing the risk of waterborne diseases. Maintaining proper hygiene practices is key to safeguarding against health risks during these conditions,” says the Ministry.

The Ministry has also cautioned against crossing swollen rivers and other water bodies during this season to reduce the risks of drowning as well as serious injuries. Kenyans living in hilly areas have been advised to move to safer grounds as the rains go on.

President Ruto and his government have made a pledge to provide basic needs to Kenyans in floods prone regions as well. The government has assured Kenyans of the provision of food and water as well as other basic supplies especially to children and other vulnerable citizens such as expectant women and the older people.

The Ministry has also asked Kenyans to avoid temporary or makeshift unstable shelters. ‘
