During the 30th National Genocide Commemoration in Kigali, Rwandan President Paul Kagame praised Kenya for its critical role in Rwanda’s reconstruction following the 1994 Genocide.

During the event, President Kagame emphasized Kenya’s assistance in providing sanctuary for fleeing Rwandans, saying, “Kenya hosted large numbers of Rwandan refugees and gave them a home.”

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua represented Kenya at the event and paid tribute to the Genocide victims by laying a wreath at the Kigali Genocide Memorial.

President Kagame expressed gratitude to all attendees, acknowledging their crucial role in Rwanda’s progress: “The contributions you have made to Rwanda’s rebirth are enormous and have helped us to stand where we are now.”

The commemoration, themed “Remember, unite, renew,” marked the beginning of a 100-day period of remembrance. Notable world leaders present included former US President Bill Clinton, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, and others, underscoring the global significance of the event.
