President William Ruto has today Friday 15th December 2023, officially launched the construction of the Riruta-Ngong Commuter Rail line in Ngong, Kajiado County. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku, and other leaders.

During the event, President Ruto emphasized the importance of involving local youth in the project and urged the contractor to consider employing them. He stated, “It is crucial to involve the local community in this project. I urge the contractor to consider employing local youth, as this initiative aims to provide employment opportunities for them and contribute to their skill development.”

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also urged the contractor to hire more Kenyans for the project, stating, “Mko wengi sana hapa. Mnafaa mkuwe tu watatu,” emphasizing the need for the Chinese contractor to prioritize employing Kenyans for the construction of the Riruta-Ngong Commuter Rail line.

The project is expected to have a significant economic impact, enhancing transportation infrastructure within Kajiado County and potentially improving local connectivity and mobility. President Ruto also expressed his commitment to funding all stalled projects that were started by the previous regime, demonstrating his dedication to the development and progress of the region.
