SunCulture, a Kenyan start-up specializing in solar irrigation, received a substantial investment of Ksh3.5 billion from two former CEOs of major global corporations, Reed Hastings of Netflix and Eric Schmidt of Google. Their investment highlights confidence in Kenya’s economic potential under President Ruto’s leadership.

SunCulture’s irrigation systems offers a reliable alternative to rain-dependent farming methods, particularly crucial in regions vulnerable to climate variability. President Ruto’s commitment to promoting climate resilience and sustainable agriculture aligns with the goals of SunCulture, ultimately benefiting small-scale farmers across Africa.

The investment in SunCulture reflects the power of global collaboration to drive local economic development. President Ruto’s administration is prioritizing promoting partnerships and attracting foreign investment to spur economic growth and create opportunities for Kenyan entrepreneurs.

SunCulture is an African solar irrigation startup that offers a Pay-As-You-Grow option that allows small monthly installments.

The Nairobi-based start-up uses off-grid solar technology to provide its customers access to water and irrigation through its solar-water pumping system with high-efficiency drip irrigation which enables farmers spend less and grow more produce.

This initiative allows farmers to replace diesel-powered pumps, thereby enhancing yields in previously non-irrigated fields. Operating in Kenya, Uganda, and Ivory Coast, SunCulture also has distribution agreements in Ethiopia, Zambia, and Togo.
